How to Draft a WhatsApp Web Reply From the Open Chat
Use AGNURA Write Reply on WhatsApp Web: load open-chat history (best-effort), follow-up vs reply, review, insert into compose, and send yourself. Web only.
You will be able to draft a WhatsApp Web reply from the open chat history, review it, insert it into compose, and send it yourself.
AGNURA AI Assistant adds an AGNURA AI menu on WhatsApp Web compose. Write Reply can scroll-load and scrape the conversation (best-effort), call managed AI with your WhatsApp reply prompt, then wait for Insert into message. It never sends the WhatsApp message for you. This is WhatsApp Web only, not the mobile app.

Prerequisites
- Desktop Chrome, signed into WhatsApp Web in the same profile as AGNURA
- AGNURA installed; Activate WhatsApp on (Settings → General)
- Signed in to AGNURA with AI credits remaining
- Non-empty WhatsApp reply prompt (Settings → WhatsApp Prompts; a default is seeded)
- Optional: Knowledge base in General settings
- An open chat with a visible compose box and enough history to scrape
Refresh WhatsApp Web after changing Activate WhatsApp if the icon does not appear.
Direct answer
- Open the chat on WhatsApp Web and click into the message box.
- Open AGNURA AI → Write Reply.
- Wait for conversation history to load (Edit if needed).
- Optional: fill What I want to say.
- Click Generate Reply, edit, then Insert into message.
- Review in WhatsApp and click Send yourself.
Exact steps
1. Open the right chat on WhatsApp Web
- Go to
web.whatsapp.comand open the conversation. - Click the compose box so it is active.
- Confirm the AGNURA AI icon appears on the right side of the compose footer, immediately before WhatsApp’s Voice message mic.
If the icon is missing: Activate WhatsApp on, reload the extension if needed, and hard-refresh WhatsApp Web. See AGNURA Not Showing or Not Generating: Troubleshooting.
2. Open Write Reply
- Click the AGNURA AI icon.
- Choose Write Reply (pencil-style action in the menu).
Nothing is sent to managed AI until you click Generate Reply inside the modal.
3. Confirm chat context
The modal typically includes:
| Field | Role |
|---|---|
| Reply prompt | Standing instructions from WhatsApp Prompts. Expand or Edit for this run if needed. |
| Contact / chat | Label for the open conversation when available. |
| Conversation history | Best-effort full history for the open chat (scrolls upward to pull older messages into the DOM). |
| What I want to say | Optional one-run note (not saved to Settings). |
Outgoing messages are labeled You in the history sent to the model.
| Outcome | What to do |
|---|---|
| History looks complete enough | Continue |
| History thin or empty | Scroll the chat to load older messages; reopen Write Reply; or Edit and paste the parts you need |
| Brand-new empty chat | Write Reply needs scraped messages; empty chats cannot generate |
History loading is best-effort. Very long chats may be truncated for the model. Aggressive virtualization can miss messages.
4. Know follow-up vs reply
| Who sent the last message | What Write Reply aims to draft |
|---|---|
| They spoke last | A direct reply to that message |
| You spoke last | A short follow-up (does not pretend they already answered; avoids repeating questions you already asked) |
Quality still depends on your prompt and the model. Edit before send.
5. Generate the draft
- Optional: fill What I want to say with the point of this message.
- Click Generate Reply.
- Wait for Generated reply (hidden until success).
- Edit tone, facts, and promises.
What managed AI receives (sent to app.agnura.com; 1 credit):
- WhatsApp reply prompt
- Optional What I want to say
- Shared knowledge base (or none)
- Contact/chat label when present
- Conversation history text
6. Insert, then send yourself
- Click Insert into message.
- AGNURA focuses the live compose field and performs a single replace write (clipboard paste when available, otherwise one insert). If replace cannot be confirmed cleanly, a clean copy may remain on the clipboard so you can Select All → Paste.
- Read the WhatsApp draft once more.
- Click Send in WhatsApp only when you approve.
Insert is manual. Generate does not auto-insert or auto-send.
What success looks like
| Check | Expected |
|---|---|
| Icon | AGNURA AI on WhatsApp Web compose |
| History | Conversation field has usable chat text |
| Draft | Appears only after successful Generate Reply |
| Insert | Text lands in compose (or clipboard fallback) |
| Send | You click Send in WhatsApp |
Common failures and fixes
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| No AGNURA AI icon | Activate WhatsApp; hard-refresh WhatsApp Web; confirm compose is open |
| Generate fails / no key | Sign in and check credits at app.agnura.com; save WhatsApp reply prompt |
| Empty history | Open a chat with messages; scroll to load more; Edit and paste |
| Draft pretends they replied | You likely sent last; treat as follow-up; edit or regenerate with a clear What I want to say |
| Insert appends or looks wrong | Use clipboard fallback (Select All → Paste); WhatsApp Lexical insert is best-effort |
| Only need wording polish | Use Rewrite Reply (draft + rewrite prompt; no thread) |
| Want dictation | Use Voice to Text (site mic permission; no managed AI) |
When to escalate to human judgment
- The chat includes secrets, payments, or legal commitments
- You should not send this conversation to AGNURA managed AI (credits)
- Tone is high-stakes (conflict, health, HR)
- Group chats where the wrong “You” framing would confuse the model
In those cases, write manually or shorten the history you allow in the modal.
How AGNURA helps this job
| Need | With AGNURA |

Compared with common alternatives
| Approach | Trade-off |
|---|---|
| Copy chat into a chatbot tab | Works; easy to lose speakers and order |
| Mobile WhatsApp AI features | Different surface; AGNURA does not run in the native app |
